I’m so so sorry Lisa. Our hearts painfully break every time, but we’d never trade it away if it meant missing the years of love we spend with them. And nothing breaks my heart like the loss of a pup.

I’m a grown ass man and I just spent 5 minutes crying like a fucking baby just reading your post. But I’m so glad Harley had you. ❤️‍🩹

They break your heart when they leave, and they take a piece with them.

I’m so sorry my friend. But thanks for giving me a cry today. Not a bad cry, but needed.

Arctic indigenous people use the term "non human person". I think it's spot on.

Also indigenous, not artic though, but they're our relatives, no matter what. We mourn them as such. 🖤

What an absolutely beautiful piece about your beloved Harley. Thank you for the cry today. Yes, eventually you will be okay. And that big part in your heart will find a way to calm down.

Because the spirit of Harley will always be there beside you, your soul dog forever.

When I saw the title, I knew this would break my heart. Lost my 175 pound Anatolian back in February, so I feel this. You have my condolences.

You're right, there are no words good enough for this. I'm so sorry for your loss, but at the same time I'm so happy for you that you had that depth of love in your life. Going for another tissue now.

I'm so, so sorry. I've been there and each time, it never gets any easier. Thank you for sharing your grief with us, and I hope that the act of writing about what a good girl Harley was will lighten the weight of it for you, at least for a little.

She was so beautiful and loving. They all were.

I’ve never loved a piece of your writing more. My heart breaks for you and Harley. I know she would never choose to leave you just like my Ringo would have stayed with me if his body hadn’t worn out from loving me so hard. They love us so hard.

Thanks for the good cry. I’m so sorry for the loss of your souldog Harley.

No matter how long we have with our beloveds it is never enough. The mementos they leave behind are both heartbreaking and beautiful. Even slobber on a wall or dirty paw prints on a window sill. Or a feather where no feather should be years after the bird has flown into wherever it is we go when we’re gone.

Love and peace to you from a “neighbor” in Tulalip.

I'm sorry for your loss, an experience so many have had, and so few have been able to write about so movingly,

I fully understand your irritation on "what will you do about the dogs" unless the question meant "how will you manage moving them" I'm about to pay a stupendous sum to move three cats across the Pacific (as well as, much more cheaply, my son and daughter in law for whom the cats are the family). Wincing at the bill, but there's no alternative.

I’m so so sorry. I lost my best mutt in the world (Boxer/Mastiff/Pittie) in January and it just hurts so bad.

I am heartbroken for you and I cried. I always cry when the dog dies in a story. I have had many dogs and cats in my life and each time dies it feels like it takes a little part of my soul with it. A year ago we lost our 18 year old Belgian Malinois and it was so much harder than I thought it was going to be. This was a beautiful tribute to your Harley.
