I was doing a ‘reverse google image search’ for something I’ve had in a folder on my desktop for years.

In the process, I found a Pinterest account with fun memes, etc. and I saw this and went, ‘lol yeah.’

And then I got to thinking about all the times over my entire life I’ve been in this position. Where someone has told me to “tone it down.”

“Maybe take it down a notch.”

“Well, you’re a fuckin handful, aren’t ya?”

“Wow, you’re a lot.”

If I’ve heard one sentiment more than any other in my many decades on the planet, it would be variations on those phrases.

As a kid, I was this very literal creature, and it always befuddled me when people would say this shit to me. I mean, to be fair, I spent a few months being tripped out when I heard my teacher tell my father that I was a “socialite” because I had no fucking idea what that was and my little brain could only reasonably equate it to “satellite” and “meteorite” and I truly thought maybe I was from outer space. I was worried - yet also pretty cool with it.

I was eventually disappointed by the actual meaning of “socialite” and also fully “WTF” at it as well because apparently what they meant by it was that I talked too much and that’s not even what socialite fucking means.

I do still feel like I’m from outer space some days, but I digress.
